Da Hong Pao Oolong (Big Red Robe), Fujian

Da Hong Pao is a dark oolong from Fujian province, China. Hundreds of Chinese legends and myths surround this tea, dozens of books have been written about it and countless video reports filmed. That is what being famous means.

Taste and aroma

The taste resembles no other Chinese tea: a barely noticeable caramel, toffee and fruit. The bouquet holds chrysanthemum, lavender, dry wood, damp earth, open-fire smoke, roasted nuts, peanut, jam, pepper, cinnamon and apricot. The liquor is stronger than that of other oolongs.

How to brew

• 5–6 g of leaf per 100–150 ml of water.
• Water at 95–100 °C.
• First infusion 10–15 seconds, add 5 seconds each time after.
• Holds 6–8 infusions.
