Wuyi Rou Gui Oolong (Wuyi Cinnamon)

Wuyi Rou Gui is a dark oolong from Fujian province whose name reads like a line of haiku: "Cinnamon from the Wuyi Mountains". Everything about it is lovely — the taste, the aroma and the colour of the liquor.

The story

Legend has it this oolong appeared in the 1980s, when tea farms were growing fast. To bring the Anxi district into the top ten tea-growing estates, one farmer bred a tea bush called "Golden Cinnamon". The leaves came out so beautiful, with a golden sheen, that they became part of wedding custom: a wife moving in with her husband brings a sprig of this tea bush for the wellbeing of the home.

Taste and aroma

Chrysanthemum and dry wood open the bouquet, followed by fruitwood chips, damp earth and open-fire smoke. The sweet part brings peanut, caramel and jam, and the finish is clove, fresh orange, cherry, plum and apricot.
