Old Tree Dian Hong Black Tea, Pressed Brick 2021

Old tree Dian Hong is a private collection red tea of the 2021 harvest, pressed into a dense 250 g brick. The pressing is very tight, so a tea knife or pick is a must.

Behind that firmness hides remarkable softness: the many golden tips (buds) promise a honey and dried fruit bouquet. The warmed leaf smells like an early morning bakery — warm bread, honey caramel and a pinch of spices. The infusion is a rich ruby colour, clean and clear.

The taste starts light and delicate and grows denser with every infusion, opening notes of vanilla sugar, flower honey, forest nuts, dried apricot and peach. This is a tea that ages: a year or two on the shelf only makes it deeper and more interesting.
