About this product

Imperial-grade Keemun from Anhui under the historic Rusinyuan name: loose black leaf with notes of wild flowers, honey, jam, dried apricot and orchard fruit.

Keemun Imperial Rusinyuan is a top imperial-grade black tea from Anhui province. "Rusinyuan", or "Garden of Confucian Faith", is one of the best-known Keemun trade names.

History

Keemun (properly Qimen) is considered the king of black tea and was China's answer to the rising popularity of Darjeeling. In 1875 a Qimen resident, Hu Yuanlong, grew tired of Indian black teas taking the lead from the Middle Kingdom. He lured a tea-taster friend away from a Beijing tea shop and set about creating the finest black tea he could. The venture prospered, and Hu Yuanlong soon registered the "Rusinyuan" trademark — the name of the first Keemun export grade.
