According to legend, Genmaicha appeared when a tea house servant accidentally spilled rice into a cup of tea. To hide the mistake, he mixed roasted rice into the tea leaves — and the drink turned out surprisingly aromatic.
This premium version combines quality green tea with golden grains of toasted rice. Rice slightly outweighs the tea leaves here, giving the cup a rich, bready crust flavor alongside the tea's grassy freshness.
Genmaicha makes a great substitute for coffee or wine alongside a meal: it pairs well with oysters, aged cheeses and fatty fish.
