Triphala is a traditional Ayurvedic herbal blend of three fruits grown on the Indian subcontinent: Amalaki (Emblica officinalis), Bibhitaki (Terminalia belerica) and Haritaki (Terminalia chebula). The name literally translates as "three fruits".
The traditional way to take triphala is as tea. Pour hot water over 1/2 teaspoon of triphala powder in a cup, whisk it (as with matcha), let it cool slightly, then drink.
Triphala carries five tastes: sweet, sour, bitter, pungent and astringent. Honey or milk can be added to taste.
