There is no plant called French vanilla. The name belongs to an egg-yolk custard — the base of French style vanilla ice cream.
Mauricio Poulsen, director of flavour creation and application at International Flavors & Fragrances Inc., describes the aroma as a custard with caramelised vanilla, egg-yolk like and slightly floral.
So this is, in effect, coffee with vanilla ice cream.
