The 'MaChi' gaiwan owes its shape to a distinctive stable base and walls that flare smoothly outward. It's one of the most convenient forms for classic tea brewing: it sits comfortably in hand and makes pouring easy to control.
The walls and lid carry a stylized deep-blue lotus leaf design. In Eastern culture the lotus symbolizes purity, renewal and spiritual growth.
The surface is covered with a fine crackle glaze. Over time these lines take on tea stains, giving each piece its own individual tone.
