In China, tea figurines (cha chong) are treated as living companions that "drink" tea alongside you. This hippo figurine has a realistic, endearing look.
Why should this hippo become your tea companion? Its detailing is remarkable — every skin fold, the sturdy clawed legs, even the gentle eyes are rendered down to the smallest detail.
Made of Yixing clay: the dark clay gives the figurine a pleasant feel in hand. Like a teapot, the tea pet absorbs tea liquor over time, growing smoother and glossier with use.
In many cultures the hippo is associated with strength and a balanced life.
