These Pu-erh tea tongs are designed to carefully break apart pressed tea cakes and bricks. Pu-erh is a special tea first spread out as loose leaves, then pressed into large «cakes» or bricks.
Afterwards the tea is left to «mature», like cheese or yogurt: the longer it ages, the more valuable its flavour becomes.
